( False friends or false cognates are words that look the same in different languages, but which actually have different meanings.)
Anticipate is a false friend that I personally use sometimes! I really like the word “antecipar” and try to use it the same way in English. Unfortunately, these words are not the same.
Anticipate – To look forward to something; to think about, wait for, or expect something from the future.
Trisha has been anticipating her wedding all year. She cannot wait until that special day!
Antecipar – To move something forward, especially a meeting. Move up.
I have another meeting this afternoon. Do you mind if we move up our lunch meeting?
